1. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device to store information, such as whether you are signed in. Acadera also uses similar browser storage technologies — principally local storage, which works like a cookie but is stored only in your own browser and is never automatically sent to our servers with each request.

References to “cookies” in this policy include these similar technologies unless stated otherwise.

2. How Acadera Uses Cookies and Local Storage

Acadera is an application you sign in to, not a page you browse anonymously, so most of what we store is functional rather than tracking-related. We use cookies and local storage to:

• Keep you signed in as you move between pages;
• Confirm your session is genuine when you request a protected page;
• Remember short-lived preferences, such as a collapsed sidebar or a dismissed tour; and
• Temporarily save in-progress work, such as a manuscript submission draft, on your own device.

We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles or sell your browsing activity to third parties.

3. Strictly Necessary (Essential) Cookies

When you sign in to Acadera, our authentication provider sets essential cookies that identify your session and let our servers confirm you are the account holder on each request. Without these cookies, you would not be able to stay signed in, and pages that require an account — such as My Papers, Payments, or an institution’s dashboard — would not work.

These cookies are strictly necessary for Acadera to function and cannot be switched off individually through a cookie-preference control on the site. You can remove them at any time by signing out or by clearing cookies in your browser, though doing so will end your session.

4. Preference and Functionality Storage

Acadera stores a small amount of information directly in your browser’s local storage — not as a cookie sent to our servers — to make the product more convenient to use. This includes things like:

• Whether you have already seen the onboarding tour, so it does not repeat every visit;
• Whether the sidebar is expanded or collapsed; and
• An in-progress manuscript submission draft, so you do not lose your work if you switch tabs, your connection drops, or the app reloads before you finish submitting.

This information stays on your own device, is not shared with other users, and is not visible to us unless you contact support and describe the issue yourself. Clearing your browser’s site data will remove it, including any unsaved draft.

5. Third-Party Cookies

When you choose to pay online through Razorpay, Acadera loads Razorpay’s own checkout script to process that payment. That script may set its own cookies or similar identifiers, used by Razorpay for fraud prevention and to process your transaction. Razorpay controls those cookies, not Acadera, and its use of them is governed by Razorpay’s own privacy policy. This only applies if you choose the online payment method; it does not apply to manual UPI/bank transfer payments.

Other infrastructure providers that Acadera relies on to operate the platform — for authentication, database, and file storage — may set cookies or equivalent identifiers as part of delivering those services to us, consistent with the third-party services described in our Privacy Policy.

6. Analytics and Advertising

Acadera does not currently use third-party analytics, advertising, or cross-site tracking cookies. If we introduce analytics or similar tools in the future — for example, to understand which pages are difficult to use so we can improve them — we will update this Cookie Policy to describe what is used and why before it takes effect.

7. Managing and Disabling Cookies

Most browsers let you view, delete, and block cookies through their settings, and let you clear local storage for a specific site. Because Acadera relies on essential cookies to keep you signed in, blocking or deleting them will sign you out and may prevent parts of the platform from working until you sign in again.

Clearing local storage will remove convenience data such as an unsaved submission draft or your “tour seen” state, but will not delete your account, submissions, payments, or certificates — those are stored on our servers, as described in our Privacy Policy.

8. Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes to Acadera, new features or service providers, or changes in applicable law. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date above.
